Figure Friday – September 11th-17th.

This is the Figure Friday post for the dates of September 11th till September 17th. I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a happy new year (Rosh HaShana), and may you have a good year (Shana tova!) :)

This is also the source of the slight delay of this post; family gatherings, including some which got their dates moved. I even tried to post this from my family’s, but it didn’t go well. I managed to insert the first figure’s posts and then it crapped out on me.

As always, click on the first picture to go to a site with more information on the figures (usually Nekomagic), and the pictures after the description for the Flickr page, with bigger photos.

Five Hot:

1.

Toushin Toshi III Moe Collect Plus 15 Hazumi Flame 1/7 PVC figure by Volks M.O.E.

Toushin Toshi III Moe Collect Plus 15 Hazumi Flame 1/7 PVC figure by Volks M.O.E.

Definitely my figure for the week. Cast-offable, though it might actually require the body to be swapped out as a whole. Love the design of her dress, detailed yet dynamic. She has a pretty face and nice hair.
Also, she fulfills what I want from a cast-offable model: I like her both dressed and undressed. Though her hair might seem to be a tad big with her clothes off, but that’s life.
This also gives me hope in regards to seeing “La campanella della benedizione Chelsea Arcot 1/6 GK by Volks Turn A-brand” as a PVC figure.
Winter 2009, 220mm, 7,500 yen. Volks Web Store exclusive; preorders taken since August 25th. You’ll need to use deputy services.

More pictures after the “More” tag, not all safe for work.

Evangelion Asuka Langley Soryu Gothic Lolita Ver. 1/7 PVC figure by Kotobukiya

Evangelion Asuka Langley Soryu Gothic Lolita Ver. 1/7 PVC figure by Kotobukiya

I like Neon Genesis Evangelion, I like Kotokubiya, I like Gothic Lolita. I really like this figure. This figure is nice, elegant, has a nice looking base (even though it seems bare from the backside) and is rather inexpensive for its size. I only wonder if the figure can be removed from the base?
I might remove the Wave 1/10 plugsuit Ayanami Rei (#link) for this figure. Or I might try to get both…
This figure is a re-release, and of a really nice figure.
December 2008, 180mm, 4,800 yen. Reserve.

Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha The Movie 1st Takamachi Nanoha The MOVIE 1st Ver. figma 053 action figure by Max Factory

Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha The Movie 1st Takamachi Nanoha The MOVIE 1st Ver. figma 053 action figure by Max Factory

This figma looks cute. This figma looks fierce. The ferret is a nice touch. Love the ankle-wings. What more can a person ask for? It’s a pretty small figure, but that’s life.
December 2009, 115mm, 2,667 yen. Reserve.
I decided to only have one of the Figma girls here this week, but Figma Vita is pretty ace too, check her out, Reserve link.

4.

Sister Princess Kaho 1/7 PVC figure by Kotobukiya 4-Leaves LG

Sister Princess Kaho 1/7 PVC figure by Kotobukiya 4-Leaves LG

This figure is pretty simple. This figure is pretty amazingly adorable. Love the plaid skirt. Nice snickers. Simple. Lovely. A tad expensive.
December 2009, 180mm, 5,500 yen. Reserve.

5.

Odin Sphere Mercedes non-scale PVC figure by Alter

Odin Sphere Mercedes non-scale PVC figure by Alter

Great diorama base. Great wings. Really nice sculpt. Just need to hope Alter will live up to its reputation and this figure won’t lean or anything.
Not too crazy on her sleeves, as the green strips should be part of the fabric, and not loose like they appear to be from the photos.
February 2010, 230mm tall, 7,800 yen. Reserve.

Five Not:

1.

Daiki Gel Vol.1 Soft Clear Green by Daiki Kougyou

Daiki Gel Vol.1 Soft Clear Green by Daiki Kougyou

Not a figure, but this deserves a special mention, 3,000 yen for slime?
Green slime? I dunno what to say.
December 2009, limited set of 5,000. Reserve.

2.

Welcome to Pia Carrot!!2 Aizawa Tomomi Gym Uniform Type Pia Carrot!!2 Ver. 1/5 PVC figure by WAVE

Welcome to Pia Carrot!!2 Aizawa Tomomi Gym Uniform Type Pia Carrot!!2 Ver. 1/5 PVC figure by WAVE

Bigger scale figure means more space to add in details. Instead, we get this rather uninspired model. Uninspired pose, uninspired outfit. Only the hair is really detailed, and it looks a bit weird as well. Not worth the price. Ah, and if you want, they also have a limited version with shorter hair, different ribbons, and pink pants instead of blue (# http://www.nekomagic.com/?p=7751 ), which is cuter, I’d admit.
January 2009, 150mm tall, 12,000 yen. Reserve. Limited reserve.

3.

Evangelion Ayanami Rei BMX trick Ver. 1/12 PVC figure by Kotobukiya

Evangelion Ayanami Rei BMX trick Ver. 1/12 PVC figure by Kotobukiya

This figure from 2007 is getting re-released. Well, it’s tiny, but that’s not my problem with it. This figure is UGLY. It looks like someone took the ugly beatstick of chimp-looking, and beat Ayanami thoroughly with it. I have no more to say.
Also, Rei doesn’t really smile, certainly not like this.
December 2009, 150mm, 4,200 yen (1/12 figure!). Reserve.

4.

Ikkitousen (Dragon Destiny) Kanu Unchou Changing Ver. 1/6 PVC figure by Taki corporation

Ikkitousen (Dragon Destiny) Kanu Unchou Changing Ver. 1/6 PVC figure by Taki corporation

I was going to say that at least her socks look nice, but there’s a really big gap between her left sock and her leg (our right). She looks like she doesn’t know where she is. What IS up with that expression?
Also, her glove has a mis-paint, on the promo shots, and it adds way too much girth to her arm..
October 2009, 8,800 yen.

5.

Ikkitousen (Dragon Destiny) Kanu Unchou Swimsuit 3 1/6 GK by Musashiya

Ikkitousen (Dragon Destiny) Kanu Unchou Swimsuit 3 1/6 GK by Musashiya

Another Kanu Unchou figure this week. And the ridiculous pose of the year award goes to! Yes, I don’t really need to say more, do I?
They really should’ve added more details to the top part of the hair. And I for one like one’s bikini to stay on one’s body. If you go for bare, go for it, don’t do half and half like that.
And what’s up with that cut in her abdomen? Her skin/flesh clinching as she’s somewhat leaning forward? Weird.
Cold Cast GK, pre-painted and completed. January 2010, 290mm, 17,800 yen.

Re-stocks and releases:

A whole boat-load of them, since some piled up (only listing still relevant ones):

    3000 yen for slime?

Which marketing genius thought that was going to sell? -_-

    • Guy says:

That’s the only reason I can think it’s “limited”, so they’ll see how much they can sell..

BTW, I suspect printing 5,000 of a new figure is actually a lot? But well, this is a small goop of slime. I assume that 5,000 was easy. But still, calling it “Limited” doesn’t call to mind “Limited figures”, but rather what companies who release new chocolate or soft-drink flavours do, “Limited”, and then find out how many people liked it or hated it, before they commit.

    • Guy says:

You know how it is too: If it fails, they’ll call him stupid, if it succeeds, they will call him a marketing genius, heh.

  2. Ninjovee says:

OH MY GOODNESS! Totally loving that Toushin Toshi figure. I hate it when I always find out that brilliant figures like these are from eroge =’D

I don’t really like the Asuka figure though, I mean… it looks nice, but her face throws me off for some reason. Mercedes — definitely a cutie!

Oh, and you had to mention Kanu figure number 18932984? LOL Srsly. I wish they’d cut back on all the Ikkitousen figures. It seems to be a release, re-stock or re-release of them every week… or every month at the least!

  3. zh3us says:

OTL forgot to order the Nanoha figma @ my Local store when i visited today =/

  4. phossil says:

Thats exactly why I like cast-offable figures (in the case of your first selection).

  5. Tommy says:

I actually don’t like the figma Vita that much, especially when I just received my Alter Vita.

Really love that gothic lolita Asuka, the base docks with Rei’s lolita version as well.

The Odin Sphere figure looks really nice, Alter quality. I just wish Alter would do more dioramic bases for their figures.

    • Guy says:

Figma Vita’s skirt is too wide, and she looks a bit bunched up. But sweet accessories! And yes, she diesn’t hold a candle to the Alter scaled figure, which I love.

  6. I think of all these figures, only Mercedes really interests me. Been waiting for her release for some time now. Though… that Asuka looks slightly tempting ^^;

    • Guy says:

Well, as I say, I like Asuka, Evangelion, and Gothic Lolita… so it’s very tempting.

I actually like Mercedes least of this batch, aside from the wings. The green noodles for the sleeves shouldn’t be there.

  7. lovelyduckie says:

Mercedes is #1 for me :) I agree that green goop Kanu is a bit silly. I actually used to own that BMX Rei, wasn’t a bad figure to buy for $10, but I ended up re-selling her for a profit when I decided to prune my collection. I own the Gothic Lolita Asuka from a re-release, I like her look a lot, def in my top 3 Kotobukiya figures. I especially loved that I got her at $35 ;)

  8. Kanon says:

I didn’t know slime costed that much!! I’d rather make Jell-o or something instead of buying 3000 yen slime ^^;; And Figma loli Nanoha is very cute, can’t wait until orders for Fate go up!

  9. Optic says:

    Already pre-ordered figma Nanoha.
Seeing the ferret was enough to convince me. :P

I wonder if anybody have all the Kanu figures out there thus far?
