Five Hot:

1.

Enka Oudou Dai☆Shogun Hatoori Kiriko Ninja Ver. non-scale PVC figure by Yamato

Enka Oudou Dai☆Shogun Hatoori Kiriko Ninja Ver. non-scale PVC figure by Yamato

This is probably the best figure of the week, by far. The face is stunning, very well done lips, great eyes, expression, sculpting… the hair is not bad either. I’m actually happy they toned down the purple of her body-suit. Great creases. Just stunning. Someone wants to buy it for me? :D
Character designed by Shunya Yamashita, which I am hearing I should follow.
January 2010, 340 mm, 11,800 yen. For this size? For this quality? Worth it.

Chaos;HEAd Seira Orgel 1/7 PVC figure by Orchidseed

Chaos;HEAd Seira Orgel 1/7 PVC figure by Orchidseed

This is a very pink figure. Even her tetsubo is pink! I think it looks perfectly good with the clothes on, and even with the clothes off, she comes naturally censored.
Nice proportions, just ok hair, nice face, really like the jaunty-hat, pose and face. Wish the hair was more detailed.
December 2009, 220 mm (and she’s kneeling), 7,429 yen. Reserve.

3.

Futari wa Precure Max Heart Cure White non-scale action figure by CM’s Corp.

Futari wa Precure Max Heart Cure White non-scale action figure by CM’s Corp.

I’m not sure it’s worth the price, but I liked it before seeing the price, so it’s here. The joints are mostly well done, except the elbow which is a bit noticeable for articulation. Good faces, good painting, nice faces. Love the boots. Just a shame it’s too costly to give 5-10 year olds.
November 2009, 200mm, 11,429 yen. Reserve.

4.

Touhou Project Kirisame Marisa non-scale PVC figure by Clayz

Touhou Project Kirisame Marisa non-scale PVC figure by Clayz

I like Marisa the best. I’ll be frank.
Cute oversized hat, cute face, cute pose. Looks a bit weird without the hat, could work if you could position the hat just flying off. Otherwise her hand looks weird. As for her hair, that’s “Hat-hair” ;)
Her face looks kinda “Oh no! I lost my hat!” from the side (left), but more smile-oriented from the front (right), hm.
Marisa is very much Alice in Wonderland, love the dress, less crazy about the apron.
November 2009, 7,000 yen.

5.

Saki Nodocchi 1/10 PVC figure by WAVE

Saki Nodocchi 1/10 PVC figure by WAVE

This figure edged out some of the competition, but I had to think hard whether to put her here.
Yes, she has a big chest, that’s not a problem in and of itself, more a problem that they seem a couple sizes larger than the character’s she’s based on. Anyway, I like the way the hair is done, the hair-ribbon and the dress are elegant rather than just simple. The chest actually seems to be almost tasteful.
The only thing I dislike about this figure is that there aren’t really details in the wings. This is taken from the OP I guess (of Saki), and there they’re simply “wings of light”, but still, some feather detail?
Only 1/10 scale, but due to the wings, her size is considerable, and her price understandable.
January 2010, 230mm tall, 300mm wide, 7,600 yen. Reserve.

Five Not:

1.

Fate/stay night Emiya Shirou Casual ver. figma 051 action figure by Max Factory

Fate/stay night Emiya Shirou Casual ver. figma 051 action figure by Max Factory

Boring. There is no greater sin for a piece of art than to be uninspiring and boring. This figure is one such. Emiya Shirou is one of those characters who probably shouldn’t get a figure. His hair blinds me ;)
Also, it doesn’t matter if he gets that arm in the game or not, it looks bad.
October 2009, 150mm, 2,667 yen. Reserve.

2.

Cross Days Katsura Kotonoha 1/8 PVC figure by Taki corporation

Cross Days Katsura Kotonoha 1/8 PVC figure by Taki corporation

“My oppai are so big my back’s killing me!” horrible pose, too white skin. Only the expression on the face is alright, but it’s ruined when joined with the above.
Also, her dress, behind? Who let her out like that?
October 2009, 8,980 yen. Reserve.

3.

Tolibrain Mei 1/6 Polystone figure by Daiki Kougyou

Tolibrain Mei 1/6 Polystone figure by Daiki Kougyou

How can a figure be so boring? How featureless the face. And for that price? No thanks. Note, looks slightly better on the picture on the group’s site. Really big hair seam-line too.
November 2009, 8,000 yen. Reserve.

Hisaki Tsugumi-chan 1/5 PVC figure by Okayama Figure Engineering

Hisaki Tsugumi-chan 1/5 PVC figure by Okayama Figure Engineering

There are cast-offables, there are eroge figures, and then there’s.. this. I have no problem with hard-core figures, but please, some things are oh so “classy”, like the pieces of feces. Well, I liked the one with the tail butt-plug I’ve seen recently, so I’m not super prudish, but this seems not that great. Hair is too shiny and too fake red, and not my style of oppai? That came out weird.
December 2009, 190 mm tall, 170mm wide, 15,000 yen. Borderline “Five not”. Reserve.

5.

Ikkitousen (Dragon Destiny) Sonsaku Hakufu 1/6 GK by Musashiya

Ikkitousen (Dragon Destiny) Sonsaku Hakufu 1/6 GK by Musashiya

This is a cold-cast garage kit, assembled and pre-painted, which helps explain the price.
The face doesn’t excite me, but I suspect it’s design, also how the hair goes over it. Note, since this is a painted garage-kit, I suspect all models will have some variability.
The bottom part of the swimsuit I assumes comes off, otherwise the slight disconnect in its midst is just bad. The hair crack is really bad.
Also, the pose is completely uninspiring.
October-November 2009, 270mm tall (some legs!), 17,800 yen.

Limited:
Updates on older stuff mainly, I’m only linking to stuff that is not final in details, such as getting more details, but unpainted. When we get painted figure details, I’ll see whether to post or not.

Volks’ KOS-MOS Ver.4 Previews
Previously gave picture of unpainted, along with link to buy on Tokyohunter’s blog.
Now we see her painted, and damn, but this is stunning. Aside from the hair being painted a bit too plastic-line, it’s really breath-taking. Except that you’ll have to paint it yourself as it’s a garage kit, and it’s 50,400 yen unpainted.
Order at Tokyohunter.

Alter’s Hatori Previews
Seems the dual-katana will be limited (Hobby Japan Magazine Mail Order exclusive), but the oversized shuriken won’t be.
November 2009 magazine.
Tokyohunter link, will get updated when there are more details.

Alter’s Saber Alter Maid Preview
Hobby Japan Exclusive, and looks so great that I want it, really.

MegaHouse’s Sheryl Preview
Sheryl Nome N.A. Ver.” from Macross Frontier by MegaHouse
December 2009 release,
I dunno if it’s exclusive or not, where and what it is exactly, so just keep an eye on it.

Guitar Yoko resin kit, tokyohunter link. 10,500 yen, at Tokyohunter.

Re-Stocks:
Hobby Link re-stocks of note.

One Coin Figure Hetalia 9 pieces by Kotokubiya, December re-release.

Kanzaki Kaori 1/8 from To Aro no Majutzu by Kotokubiya.

Kosaka Tamaki Maid Ver. 1/6 From ToHeart2 by Wave.

Teana Lanster Alter Ver. 1/7 from Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha Strikers by Alter.

Shishido Akiha 1/8 from Soka Kake Girl by Good Smile Company (awesome model!).

My favorite in this set is Marisa from touhou.

  2. gunstray says:

WTF if they bothered making Shirou, why not make (G)archer as well.

    • Guy says:

      Give it time.

Also, Archer got scale figures, something that may be beyond Emiya.

I mean, getting a $28 figma is one thing, getting a $90 scale figure another ;)

    • Guy says:

Also with the rate GSC is stealing money from our pockets releasing new models, I see no reason to worry.

  3. Snark says:

Oh god; the figure with the pieces of shit made me laugh out loud XD

  4. Lelouch says:

You obviously don’t watch Saki… Nodoka’s boobs are just right… gawd, all of you boob haters suck…

    • Guy says:

      Boob hater?

I think they are slightly too big, I think they are very well done, and even said as much.

      Saying I hate them is a gross mis-representation O.o
And no, I don’t watch Saki, I only went by the OP.

  5. Ninjovee says:

One of the things that is sad about the awesome figures you posted here is that their producers/sculptors don’t bother with making a less boring base. Then again, if they did that, they’d probably increase the price. OTL

Figures that are based from Shunya Yamashita’s art are just awesome eye-candy. I haven’t bought any myself, but I like staring at photos of them. LOL; I also liked that action figure in #3 before seeing the price — I would probably buy her if she were in Fraulein Revoltech price range

As for the not figures, I think Shirou was made to make people pair him with Saber. LOL. Saber is too awesome for Shirou IMO. Also seeing that Rin was made as a figma before, I think we’ll be seeing a figma Archer in production soon enough. What I’d really like is for Ilya and Rider to be figmatized. OwO That ero figure — too scary, and that Ikkitousen figure is just ick.

That guitar Yoko resin is awesome btw. More eye candy to watch out for on the web!

    • Guy says:

More eye candy to watch out for on the web!

Geekorner, doing that for you since… well, since August 2009 ;)

To be honest, about the Shunya Yamashita’s figure base for example, it’s both rather small, and the figure is so spectacular I don’t see anyone even noticing the base ;) The problem with big bases is with small figures and/or large bases.

And I also liked that Action Figure before seeing the price, I liked the Cure Black figure even better, that was hot, but same price :-/

As for Emiya, that’s exactly it. You don’t have to release everything. A game can have 9 out of its 10 models released if the tenth model is boring.
I wonder what they’ll do with Berserker, because if they keep him true to size, he’ll be huge.
Then again, if they do Ilya in full size, she’ll be too big ;)

I really like figures of Caren Ortensia from Fate/Hollow Ataraxia.

Futari wa Precure action figure looks great, do want ^^.

  7. lovelyduckie says:

I expect some of the auctions from your 2nd eBay seller will spike quite soon. I was actually considering selling my Noir Clalaclan and Mao too. I’ll see what his sell for and decide if it’s worth it! I was accidentally given a free extra Elywn/Elwing Kotobukiya figure and she sold for her retail price for me.

I remember I missed an Alter Revy re-stock on Hobby Search by a few hours and was so annoyed at how I had BARELY just missed getting one of my grails at MSRP.

    • Guy says:

      You’ll be surprised.

I’ve seen eBay sales for some stuff close surprisingly low.
I’ve seen numerous figures that go for $60-70 end up at $20, and two days later these same figures close for $40.
Luck of the draw is often where it’s at, especially for Kotokubiya Shining Wind/Tears figures, there are so many of them sold on eBay all the time, that I’ve seen Blanc Neige go for all sorts of prices.

Then again, maybe linking to that person’s sale will be part of the price-hike’s cause? :)

      • lovelyduckie says:

I watched a few of the auctions from the guy from the 2nd link (the 3 Shining figures) and they didn’t spike as much as I was expecting. They ended up selling at about what I would ask for as my starting bid (about $30).

  8. Tommy says:

I really like the second one in the hot list, Seira Orgel?, she’s really cute. ^^

Not all “hat hair” are the same! Which reminded me why I took one of those photo for my Sheryl review. ^^;; I’m not really into the whole Touhou thing, and don’t really get why they’re releasing so many figures now…and not last year or two years ago.

As for the figma, it looks sad, but people will still buy it because they are 1. figma fanboy, 2. Fate/Stay Night fanboy, or 3. figma + F/SN fanboy. :P

    • Guy says:

The hat doesn’t really sit on her head, it’s a crafting cheat, so yeah, her hair is ok without it AND with it. That’s what I like about options: That they really be options; that you’d want to use either option and be happy.

For the Figma, I get Fate/Stay Night fanboys, but Emiya Shirou fanboys are something I can’t get ;)

  9. Kanon says:

LOL, somehow I knew that the Tolibrain Mei and Hisaki Tsugumi-chan figures would be on the “Five Not” list ^^; OMG I didn’t know the Tsugumi came with piles of feces! Wow…

    I kind of agree with what you said about the Figma Shirou being boring. In the picture with the arm, it almost looks like someone took an arm off a different figure and put it on him. I still want him though, he’s cute! Just won’t use the arm ^^;;

    • Guy says:

The pieces of feces pushed it way over the fine-line of “in good taste”, even for a hard-core eroge figure ;)

Then again, different people and different fetishes. But even if it’s your fetish, it’s not “good taste”.
