Figure Friday – August 8th to 14th in Review.

Here we are for another Figure Friday. This time there will be less photos, as I’ll try to use “Five Hot – Five Not”, with an additional figure or two.

Also, there were less figures this time around for me to look through, seems a combination of Obon, it not being directly after WonFes Summer 09, and not being the beginning of the month. Comiket 76 is ongoing currently, but I’ve decided to wait with figures from it either to next week, or till when there is an official declaration for them.

Anyway, let us begin (most figures under the cut, due to it being photo heavy). Pictures are not in order of how good or bad they are. Click on the opening photos to go to a page with more photos, usually.
BTW, some pictures are a bit risque.

Five Hot:

 1.

Panya season 4: Delight Lucia 1/7 PVC figure by Amiami

Panya season 4: Delight Lucia 1/7 PVC figure by Amiami

Best figure of the week. I really love the detail of her hair, her skirt’s edges might seem a bit too plastic-like, but I wouldn’t know without more photos, her forehead’s slightly big. She is adorable though, cute nice face, cute outfit. And did I mention the hair?
It seems costly for the height, but she’s squatting, and her hair is almost as big as her.
November 2009, 130 mm, 7,800 yen.

Some more photos.

Shining Wind Seena Kanon 1/7 PVC figure by Orchidseed

Shining Wind Seena Kanon 1/7 PVC figure by Orchidseed

Long-haired Seena, I prefer the Kotokubiya versions of Tony Taka’s designs, but this is pretty sweet too. Nice figure, nice base, except for the necessary butt-impression to keep the figure steady.
For this amount of material, I don’t think it’s expensive either. I just wish we had pictures of her from behind, especially the hair-detail.
November 2009, 7,429 yen, 190 mm. Reserve.

 3.

Kobato. Kobato non-scale PVC figure by Kotobukiya

Kobato. Kobato non-scale PVC figure by Kotobukiya

Nice figure, non-scale, based on manga (Kobato), anime will air on October 6th, 2009. You can see that this is a CLAMP character.
I think it’s cute, the face is a little weird, but that’s to be expected. Hair is nice if not /spectacular/. The little blue monster reminds me of Stitch from Disney’s Lilo & Stitch. Very nice price for this figure.
4,800 yen, October 2009, 180 mm. Reserve.

4.

Magical Angel Creamy Mami Creamy Mami Gothic Lolita Ver. 1/7 PVC figure by Maitan

Magical Angel Creamy Mami Creamy Mami Gothic Lolita Ver. 1/7 PVC figure by Maitan

Cute face/bun, nice long legs. I dislike the fact that many gothic-lolita dresses seem so maid-like, but hey, you can present it as either of the two, I guess. The small animals are always cute. Nice detail in the hair and dress, and the pantyhose, not really sold on how lace is basically half-opaque plastic.
October 2009, 6,800 yen, 230 mm. Reserve.

5.

Touhou Project Hakurei Reimu Nendoroid action figure by Good Smile Company

Touhou Project Hakurei Reimu Nendoroid action figure by Good Smile Company

Will be sold at the Comiket 76 August 14-16, the question is whether it’ll be sold non-exclusively later.
Adorable nendoroid, that’s all I’ve got to say. Gotta love the hair piece going up.

 Five Not:
Some pictures here are not entirely Safe For Work, but none reveal anything directly. The links might.

1.

Poko to Issho! Poko 1/6 PVC figure by Solid Theater

Poko to Issho! Poko 1/6 PVC figure by Solid Theater

So NOT. Her tail between her legs doesn’t make her look sexy, it looks like, well, a furry peenar. A limp furry peenar.
Also, not crazy about the face. The top will apparently be cast-offable, but it looks meh with it on, like someone just dropped it there. Not a good design.
She looks cuter in her young form and in the drawn version (is based on a manga).
September 2009, 6,000 yen.

2.

Kodomo no Jikan Usa Mimi Gym Uniform ver. 1/4 PVC figure by FREEing

Kodomo no Jikan Usa Mimi Gym Uniform ver. 1/4 PVC figure by FREEing

Another NOT for me. ¼? This figure has nice, detailed hair, but what’s up with the posture, what’s up with her hand on her rear? Also, boring.
November 2009, 11,238 yen.

3.

Needless Eve Neuschwanstein 1/7 PVC figure by Yamato

Needless Eve Neuschwanstein 1/7 PVC figure by Yamato

There is nothing really wrong with this figure, except for the Drill Hand (???), maybe it’s from the anime, but regardless, not a fan. Anyway, this figure has flat hair, the folds in her bottom part are too precise and angular, and the whole loin-clothe seems too easy. This figure just seems, in a word, uninspired.
December 2009, 230 mm, price unknown.
Needless? Yes.

4.

Ikkitousen (Dragon Destiny) Chouun Shiryuu School Swimsuit Ver. 1/8 PVC figure by Taki corporation [NSFW!]NSFW! Cast-offable.
Well, a big blue blob of clothing, there’s a weird fold at the belly so the clothings could be removed. Heck, the worse thing is, it looks like she’s taking a dump.
September 2009, 7,800 yen. Reserve.

5.

SIF EX Odin Sphere Velvet by Yamato

SIF EX Odin Sphere Velvet by Yamato

Her abdomen is sculpted and painted very well, but her pointy oppai are a meh, her figure as a whole is pretty boring and lackluster, especially for the asking price.
The pose looks pretty ridiculous from behind, and I can’t decide if her red-clothings are just ok or really bad. Totally not hot for the rag around her waist, in black. The chains are also unexciting.
January 2010, 9,800 yen, 250 mm. Reserve.

Delays and Re-stocks:

Black Rock Shooter delayed from August to October, not surprising considering they just finished it. Should announce dates when they’re done, but then, where’s the promotion value in that?

Saber Lily, Distant Avalon version delayed from August to September. PVC quality was not good enough…

No real re-stocks worth mentioning. Just the first and second set of the Nendoroid School-life rooms.
Some nendoroids were re-stocked and immediately went out-of-stock again.

News:

Comiket 76 is upon us. Here’s the translated version of Akiba Hobby’s cover of day 1, and here‘s Kumo’s post.

Bids:

Hiro488 is someone who sells on eBay. The seller lives in Japan and only ships via EMS, so shipping is a bit costly, usually sells only via “Buy it now” except for nendos and figmas, but currently has other, interesting items for sale. All bids started at $0.01. Feel free to click on “All items” to see his sales as well.

Feedback:

Feel free to tell me how I’ve got everything wrong, or how you agree with me :)

  1. Cool post, but you plopped the review for the Poko to Issho figure in the area for Reimu, who is surely a hot, not a “Not”.

    • Guy says:

      Thanks, fixed.

Sometimes I hate WordPress for some niggling stuff. Like, I’ve had to get all the images centered again, dunno why, the text under the Chouun Shoryuu is bigger, as often happens to text directly under a horizontal break line or a “More” tag, the images at the bottom of each picture resisted being centered, text posted for the “NOT” from word got posted twice… and even though I deleted it got tail-girl up in Reimu’s business, and drill-girl up in Usa Mimi’s.

Several edits later, and everything but the weird font size is fixed.

  2. Snark says:

Hmm, the Hakurei Reimu nendo is the only figure I’m really interested in.

  3. Blowfish says:

Your commentaries to that Furry Figure and Choun just made my day ^^
Choun is a great example why most figures shouldnt feature a cast-off option. What is she holding there anyway?

Seena is very tempting but I already own her bootylicious version

    • Guy says:

She’s holding a mini-surf. You lay your back on it and pedal with the feet in swimming-pools.

Look at last week’s entry for Allean. I have no problem with cast-offs, it just should look good both with the clothings, and without.

If not, then you’re not really getting more options.

Yeah, Seena’s bootilicious calls out to me. Heck, my dream collection is nendoroids, Saber Lily/Yoko, and Kotokubiya’s Shining Wind figures, almost all of them :D

  4. Ninjovee says:

Nice top 5 choices. I agree with most of the comments you have with them. Although I think Pangya girl isn’t all that, her vivid colors make her total eye candy for me.

    I think… that the Poko figure is aimed toward futanari fans… I think only they would find this very pleasing. ><;

Also, in Eve's defense, her normal attire is like that, including the loincloth. The only alternate attire I've seen to date is her in a school uniform-like outfit, and I think there are already lots of figures with school uniforms. I'm not liking the figure itself, but if her pose was not just a standing pose, it would have been better *nod*

I also checked the ebay user you plugged. Thank GOD there are no Mikuru goth lolis or else I would've tried bidding on her TAT; those Haruhi goth loli statues are just adorable (and expensive)

    • Guy says:

I think the Poko figure with her tail there was not aimed at futanari fans, but was supposed to have her look coy. You know, how in pictures they use the tail/arms to hide the explicit bits.
      It failed.

For Eve, well, it might be her normal attire, but it’s still boring. You might see me ream into some figmas next week, the Emiyou and normal clothes Saber. Sure, it’s how their normal attire looks, but that doesn’t make it any less boring. Not everything is deserving a figure.
-You see, I have no problem with liking the character, and thinking a figure is uninspiring and flat. This figure is uninspiring and flat.

Yeah, I’m not going to win that Haruhi Goth figure he has, sadly. If he were willing to ship EMS I’d be able to bid about $10 more, but it is what it is.

  5. phossil says:

Wow. First figure is very impressive. Very good quality and similar with the original image.
Another good figure to consider is Magical Angel Creamy Mami.
    nice blog btw.

  6. Tommy says:

That Delight Lucia figure looks really nice. Don’t really know who she is though.

    I like the Orchidseed Seena, but not too sure about their quality so I’ll wait for some reviews first. I don’t think she’ll fly off the shelves anyways. ^^;

Umm…Chouun Shiryuu is by Taki Corp…they’re horrible. I think you’ll find a Taki Corp figure in the “Not” list every week they have one up for pre-order. :P

  7. Persocom says:

I’m waiting for the alternate color of Lucia, saw a black one from WonFes pictures so I’m going to hold out for that one. Want the Reimu nendo but I just can’t afford to drop the price asked for her right now. Hopefully she’ll be released as a regular one in the future but I have my doubts. Mami and Kobato look good but I don’t particularly want them at this point in time. I pretty much agree on the nots without a second thought

    • Guy says:

Thanks for the note vote of confidence :)
Many people seemed to be pro Velvet and Usa Mimi.

Yeah, I hope that Reimu nendoroid is made widely available too…

Hm. I will have to see that Lucia, but I doubt a black hair would carry the beauty and articulation of this hair. Which is why deep blue hair often fails in long-haired figures: It can’t carry the look right.

  8. Baya says:

Though I must say looking at this was actually an accident I stumbled upon from a google search, it was rather interesting. I agree with the hots basically because they’re all just eye-catching, especially the bright brilliance of the pangya one. Though, on the nots, I was pretty much nodding my head and agreeing right up until the one of Velvet. To be truly honest, that one annoyed me. No offense to you or your opinions, but she looks like a lovely figure to me. I agree, the chest area was a bit much as far as how pointy they came out looking, but the fabric looks just fine in my eyes, and I adored her character and its design when I played the game she’s from too. Really, the reason for her pose has to do a lot with her character’s personality, despite being rather strange in figure form.

    • Guy says:

This is more than fair enough, I by no claim that my opinion is objective fact. Far to the opposite. Some figures, like Velvet, I know I run afoul of the majority opinion, but that’s alright as well.
The figure is very well made, technically. It’s just that the design somehow leaves me more than cold.

I am glad you found it interesting, you might want to give a look to the other Figure Friday posts as well! :)
